Lufthansa flight delayed or cancelled? Check what you're owed
Lufthansa is an airline from Germany, so EU261 covers all its flights departing Europe and its flights arriving in Europe from outside. Enter your flight and we'll work out the amount.
- €250 / £220flights up to 1,500 km
- €400 / £3501,500 to 3,500 km, or over 1,500 km within the EU
- €600 / £520over 3,500 km
What Lufthansa pays: examples with real distances
The amount depends on the flight distance, not the ticket price. Here are example Lufthansa routes with the distance worked out the way the regulation requires (EU261 amounts):
| Route | Distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|---|
| Madrid → Frankfurt am Main | 1,420 km | €250 for 3 h or more |
| Barcelona → Munich | 1,095 km | €250 for 3 h or more |
| Málaga → Frankfurt am Main | 1,816 km | €400 for 3 h or more |
How to claim from Lufthansa
Claim from Lufthansa in writing first, through the claims form on its website, with your booking reference and boarding pass. Ask explicitly for compensation under EU261 (or UK261) as well as any refund or expenses.
For a Lufthansa flight departing Spain, the enforcement body is AESA; for one departing the UK, the airline's ADR scheme or the CAA.
How much you can claim
A fixed amount per passenger based on flight distance, not ticket price. Flights from Spain and the rest of the EU follow EU261 (euros); flights from the UK follow UK261 (pounds). Sources: Your Europe, European Commission and UK Civil Aviation Authority.
