What Emirates pays: examples with real distances

The amount depends on the flight distance, not the ticket price. Here are example Emirates routes with the distance worked out the way the regulation requires (EU261 amounts):

    RouteDistanceCompensation per passenger
    Madrid → Dubai5,650 km€300 for 3–4 h late; €600 from 4 h
    Barcelona → Dubai5,176 km€300 for 3–4 h late; €600 from 4 h

    How to claim from Emirates

Claim from Emirates in writing first, through the claims form on its website, with your booking reference and boarding pass. Ask explicitly for compensation under EU261 (or UK261) as well as any refund or expenses.

Emirates is not a European airline, so EU261 only covers its flights departing the EU (for example, Madrid to Dubai). Its flights into Spain are not covered.

    How much you can claim

A fixed amount per passenger based on flight distance, not ticket price. Flights from Spain and the rest of the EU follow EU261 (euros); flights from the UK follow UK261 (pounds). Sources: Your Europe, European Commission and UK Civil Aviation Authority.
